Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy covers Pocket Puzzles & Ink Tracing, our app for iPhone, and the server it talks to.

The short version: the app works without an account, never asks for your name or email, and keeps your drawings and answers on your phone. We never sell your information and show no ads.

Who we are

The app is published by Adolfo Gastalver Rubio (NIF ES05294386Q), based in Spain. We decide how the information below is used, which makes us its controller under European data protection law.

For anything about your privacy, write to support@adol.tech.

What stays on your phone

Your ink, your puzzle answers, your place in each book and your settings are stored only on your phone, in the app's own storage. They are never sent to us.

The books you download are kept on your phone too, so you can read them offline.

Like the rest of your phone's data, the app's storage is part of your phone's backups if you back it up to iCloud or to a computer. Apple or your computer keeps those backups, not us.

A later version of the app will also back up your work to your own iCloud account, where Apple keeps it for you and we cannot read it. We will update this policy before that version comes out.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional: it lets your purchases follow you to another phone. You sign in with Apple, and the app asks Apple for neither your name nor your email, so we never receive them.

Apple gives us an identifier for you that stays the same each time you sign in to our app and differs from the one any other developer gets. Our server stores it with an account number of our own, the dates the account was created and last changed, and a token Apple hands us at sign-in. We keep that token encrypted, and use it only to end your Sign in with Apple for the app when you delete your account.

To keep you signed in, your phone keeps a session key in its keychain. Our server stores only a fingerprint of that key (a hash), the account it belongs to and when it expires. Signing out deletes it. A session lasts six months, and the app extends it when you use it in its last month.

Purchases

You buy Premium and books through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple takes the payment, and we never see your card or any other payment details.

RevenueCat, the company that manages purchases for us, receives Apple's record of what you bought with an ID for you: your account number if you are signed in, or a random ID RevenueCat makes for your phone if you are not. It also receives what it needs to process a purchase, such as the app's version, your country or region and your currency.

Our server keeps a copy of what RevenueCat says you have: Premium or each book you bought, the product and when it ends. It uses that copy to decide which books you may download.

If you bought without signing in, the app sends RevenueCat's random ID with a download, and our server asks RevenueCat what it unlocks. We keep nothing from that request.

Downloading books

The app fetches the list of books, their covers and the books you may read from our server, which runs on Cloudflare. The list and the covers are the same for everyone, so those requests carry nothing about you.

To protect the server, it counts how often each account, or each internet address when no one is signed in, makes it ask RevenueCat about purchases. A count lasts a minute.

Our server keeps no log of your requests. Cloudflare keeps the errors it reports, which name no one, for a few days, and counts its requests only as totals. We read them only to find and fix problems.

App updates

When the app starts, it asks Expo, the service that delivers fixes to the app, whether one is ready. That request carries the app's version, your phone's operating system and a random number made for this installation, which lets Expo count how many installations downloaded a fix. It does not tell Expo or us who you are.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, location, contacts or photos. The app shows no ads, has no analytics or tracking tools, and nothing in it follows you across other apps or websites.

If you chose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's Settings, Apple may send us crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you. You can turn that off in Settings, under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.

Why we use it

We use the information above to give you what you asked for: your account, your purchases and the books they unlock. That is the performance of our contract with you, under Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR.

We keep error reports and the counts to keep the service secure and working. That is our legitimate interest, under Article 6(1)(f).

We never sell your information, never use it for advertising and never use it to profile you.

Who else handles it

RevenueCat (purchases), Cloudflare (our server, its database and the books' storage) and Expo (app updates) process this information for us, under data protection agreements. Apple handles Sign in with Apple, payments and the App Store under its own privacy policy.

Some of them process data in the United States. Transfers from the European Economic Area rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Your account and the copy of your purchases stay until you delete your account. A session stays until you sign out or delete your account, and stops working six months after it was made or last extended.

Error reports are deleted after a few days, and a count after a minute.

RevenueCat keeps its record of your purchases until we ask it to delete it, which the app does when you delete your account. Apple keeps its own record of what you bought.

Deleting your account

In the app, open Account and tap Delete account. It asks first. Then it ends your Sign in with Apple for the app, has RevenueCat delete its record of you, and deletes everything our server holds about you.

Your books, ink and answers stay on your phone until you delete the app. Apple keeps the record of what you bought, so Restore Purchases still works with the same Apple Account.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or hand it over in a portable form. Write to support@adol.tech. We hold no name or email, so we may ask for something that ties you to the account, such as Apple's receipt for a purchase.

Deleting your account in the app does what a deletion request would, at once.

If you think we handle your information wrongly, you can complain to a data protection authority: in Spain the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, or the one where you live or work.

Children

The app is not made for children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. It asks no one for a name, an email or any other way to reach them.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. A buy button sends you to your own country's Amazon, worked out from where your connection comes from, and we keep nothing from it. The company that hosts the site keeps ordinary request logs.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects what we collect, we will say so in the app's release notes before it takes effect.
